“During the 1960s, the British National Coal Board introduced a standard for hydraulic hose and fitting assemblies, known as NCB 157. “Genflex believes that this standard has stood the test of time, and with over 50 years of experience behind this system, we have not found any improvement to this standard of assembly,” says Genflex director David Michelle.
NCB 157 states that the hydraulic hose has to be cut squarely, while the outer cover where the fitting is to sit on the hydraulic hose must be removed.
The insert of the fitting must be assembled to the hose by using soapy water, and not grease or oil, since grease or oil would not only shorten the lifespan of the hose, but would also cause damage to the compounds of the hose assemblies, owing to the hydraulic hose having oils in its own rubber compound.

He adds that the basic principle in the manufacture of hydraulic hose assemblies is that when the fitting has been attached to the hose, the larger size of the Go-No-Go gauge should not be able to pass through the fitting, yet the smaller side, which is less than 10%, should easily pass through the fitting.
